Artist Profile

George Walbye
Little Bear
Little Bear

Although sculptor George Walbye has spent his entire life in the Rocky Mountain West, his sculpture moves beyond ordinary perceptions of Western Art. Noted for his bowls and lidded pots, Wallbye uses elements inspired by Native American art and ornamentation. His dramatic work also has a contemporary quality.

Walbye was one of the five artists chosen by High Plains Arts Council to install founding works in nationally renowned Benson Park Sculpture Garden in Loveland. His bronzes are in private and corporate collections in Europe, Canada and the United States. As Loveland's earliest bronze sculptor, Walbye continues to be a strong proponent and active participant in our expanding art community.

Artist's Statement: "As a sculptor, I am intrigued by the beauty, strength and grace of all creatures from the human to the animal form. Each has its own spirit and personality. Capturing the essence of these attributes in my sculptures is always my primary and most challenging goal".
